RONNIE LOTT "THE STALKER"
With all of the videos documenting his thunderous hits,
his reputation as a relentless pursuer and the pure
intimidation factor of his intensity, people tend to not notice
that the Raiders' Ronnie Lott is one of the most
accomplished thieves at his position.
That Lott led the NFL with eight interceptions should
surprise no one. The ten-time Pro Bowler left the San
Francisco 49ers in 1990 as the team's all-time leader with
51 interceptions. He returned those pickoffs for a franchise
best 643 yards and five career touchdowns. He came over
to the Raiders on Plan B and immediately became the
leading active career interception leader in the AFC. The
perennial All-Pro performer led the NFC in picks with 10 in
1986. What may be this future Hall of Famer's least
appreciated talent is his constant awareness of what is
going on all over the field. Not only does he time his hits with
unequaled precision, but he follows the quarterback's every
move and pounces when the time is right, either to snatch
a free ball or obliterate the unlucky pass catcher.
