tional League batting championship in '90 because
he impressed the Orioles too much. He was leading
the league with a .349 average in carly May when
they brought him up to fill in for an injured Sam
Horn. David doubled in his third major league at
bat. Back at Rochester at the end of May, he was
voted the IL's best batting prospect and best defen-
sive first baseman. He also topped the loague at
mid-season with a 355 BA and started in the
Tripie A All-Star Game.
Recalled again in August, David ended his IL
season with a .336 BA in 86 games, a hefty 26
points higher than the eventual batting champion.
An excellent contact hitter, he did manage to tie for
third in the league with 28 doubles
