system, Tommy is the one the team has been waiting for the
most. He is a big, hard-throwing righthander who is willing to
bust hitters inside. In '89, Tommy showed he was worth
waiting for when he tossed a three-hit, 3-0 shutout over the
Astros in his third major league start in late September. He
spent most of the year at Triple-A Richmond, where he ranked
third in the International League with 125 strikeouts and 12th
with a 3.61 ERA, despite a 9-12 record.
The year before, Tommy also had a losing record, but led
the IL with three shutouts and was third with 130 K's.
