different, though. In a May game, Tom mopped up by pitching
one-third of an inning. A short while later, he whacked three
doubles and a single in onc game.
Tom, who is ambidextrous, threw righthanded as a star
shortstop in high school and lefthanded as a football quarter-
back. "He's proven himself," said manager Buck Rodgers.
"His versatility lets me make mid-game switches without
weakening the team. I call him my sixth man."
