and in the outfield. He hit safely in a team record 14 con-
secutive games and, in one series with the Brewers, went
10-for-13. As a pinch-hitter, Scott had six hits in his first 12 at
bats. One of the toughest players in baseball to strike out, he
had a career average of one SO every 22.1 plate appearances
in games prior to '89.
Scott's eyes seem to light up when he faces his original
team, the Yankees. In 33 at bats against them in '88, he hit a
devastating .424, with two homers and seven RBIs.
