his second year in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, he rank-
ed third in the league with 83 RBIs and 232 total bases, while
batting .313. Jerald has hit over .300 in every one of his five
pro seasons. "He hits the ball hard all the time," said one PCL
manager. "The ball really jumps off his bat."
A big righthanded hitter with a classic swing, Jerald was
drafted by the Padres in '85. He was named the Northwest
League MVP in '85 as he led the league with 24 doubles and
ranked fifth with a .325 BA. Jerald's brother, Phil, is a top pros-
pect with the Tigers (see card No. 607).
