after his trade from the Blue Jays at the end of July. A
southpaw sinkerballer who changes speeds well, he was a
starter in '88, and won five of his first six decisions. Jeff ended
the season with an 8-5 record and a creditable 3.18 ERA.
As a southpaw setup man for ace closer Tom Henke in '87,
Jeff led all rookie relievers with 68 appearances (fifth in the AL)
and all major league relievers with 12 victories. A Harvard
grad with a BA in Economics, he was drafted in the sixth round
by the Blue Jays in '85. In his first two seasons in the minors,
Jeff had an 18-12 record as a starter.
