A fearsome clutch hitter, he smashed three homers on Opening Day '88 and went 5-for-5 the next day, giving him eight hits in his first nine at bats. George had an enormous season in '87 when he was named AL MVP. He topped the AL in RBis and total bases (270), and ranked second in home runs, runs and slugging (.605). He also had seven RBls in one game.
