Craig, who has few peers defensively at third base, gave the
Orioles shades of Brooks Robinson in '89. With a powerful arm
and quick reflexes in the field, he helped tighten up the O's in-
field defense considerably. In '88, Craig was voted the best
defensive third baseman in the Triple-A International League
as he topped all IL third basemen in putouts and total chances
for the second successive season.
He also was a clutch hitter. In his first five at bats with the
bases loaded in '89, Craig had five hits and seven RBIs. In '88,
he was the International League MVP as he ranked second in
the league with 73 RBIs, tied for second with 16 homers and
was third with 42 extra-base hits.
