Pawtucket in '89 despite being recalled by the Red Sox three
different times. He batted .347 in spring training and was the
last player cut from the Red Sox roster before Opening Day.
Carlos, a line-drive hitter with a short, quick swing, made a big
impression in '88, his first in the International League, when
he ranked second in the IL with 213 total bases and tied for
second with 16 homers. His 67 runs and 66 RBIs were good
for fourth place in the league.
Carlos was signed as a free agent by the Red Sox in '84,
and batted over .300 in '86 and '87.
